Tiefling Name Generator for D&D and TTRPGs

Tieflings carry the mark of infernal bloodlines in their horns, their tails, their eyes that glow like embers in the dark - and in their names. Across the many cultures that tieflings find themselves in, naming conventions have fractured into at least three distinct traditions, each reflecting a different relationship to that infernal heritage.

The oldest tradition borrows directly from Infernal, the language of devils. These names are angular and deliberate - Beleth, Mordai, Kairon - names that sound like contracts and taste like smoke. Tieflings raised in families that have long accepted their heritage often carry these names as a point of pride, a refusal to pretend the bloodline is anything other than what it is.

A second tradition emerged among tieflings who sought to define themselves against fate rather than through it. These are the virtue names - Resilience, Carnage, Hope, Torment. The irony is intentional. A tiefling named Hope knows exactly what people assume when they see her, and she named herself the thing they think she cannot be. Virtue names are a philosophy compressed into a single word.

A third tradition simply adapts the naming conventions of whatever culture raised them - a tiefling raised among dwarves might have a dwarven name that sits oddly against their appearance, which is its own kind of statement.

For GMs, tiefling names are character in miniature. The name a tiefling chooses or was given tells you something about their parents, their community, and their own self-conception before they speak a single line of dialogue.
